Swim Lessons

Swim lessons are offered throughout the year for both adults and youth. We offer both Private and Group Lessons. Courses are designed to teach children the fundamentals of swimming in a fun and patient environment. A progressive level format is used to build on skills learned in the previous class level. Parents should enroll children in the level for which they have adequate skills. All swimming lessons are held at Los Gatos High School Aquatic Center

Pre-School Levels

Cuttlefish A 6-17 Months
Parents help their cuttlefish become more comortable in the water. They will learn to get their face wet and float with assistance. Your cuttlefish will also learn how to safelty enter and exit the water.

Cuttlefish B 18-35 Months

Clownfish 3-5 YRS.
Your clownfish will begin to explore the shallow waters of the ocean. They will learn to float on their front and back while having assistance with the swim instructor always being within an body length away.

Jellyfish 3-5 YRS.
Your jellyfish will further build upon the skills they learned as a clownfish and learn new ways to enter the water. They will become comfortable enough to perform these skills without assistance. Jelly Fish will get stronger progression towards floating!
Completed Clown Fish (Level 1), Is comfortable with water in the face and eye area.

Pre-School Swim Lesson Guide
Balloon Fish 3-5 YRS.
Your Balloon Fish will continue to practice the skills they have learned but this time with limited assistance. Instructors will try their best to encourage unassited front crawls from the wall to the instructor. They will begin to learn the different types of strokes along with other aquatic skills. Once your Balloon Fish feels brave enough, they will take a trip to the deep ocean with a lifejacket on!
Completed Jelly Fish (Level 2), Participant is comfortable with water and can float with/without assistance.

Pre-School Swim Lesson Guide
Flying Fish 3-5 YRS.
Your flying fish is finally ready to begin their ocean exploration on their own. They will build on the different types of strokes they previously learned and how to safely dive into the water. Once they’re done, they are able to try out for our swim team!
Completed Balloon Fish (Level 3), Participant is comfortable swimming on their own. They can float without assistance and can do front crawl and back crawl for 5 yards.

Elementary School Levels

Sea Turtle Ages 6-12 YRS.
Your Sea Turtles will be primarly learning the basics of swimming. Such as Front Floats, Back Floats and Freestyle. (More skills presented in the class)

Sting Ray Ages 6-12 YRS.
Your Sting Rays will develop learning fundamental strokes such as Freestyle, Backstroke, and Breathstroke
Level 1 Sea Turtle has been completed or if participant can front float with zero assistance

Seal 6-12 YRS.
Your Seals will now be placed into a larger and deeper pool to test their endurance and improve on their skills from the previous course.
Completed Level 2 Sting Ray or if participant can Swim 10 yards freestyle with zero assistance

Dolphin 6-12 YRS.
Dolphins will swim the length of the pool (25 yards) The will build upon their Freestyle and Breathstroke. Dolphins are learning stroke refinement and working towards building stamina.
Completed Level 3 Seal orr if participant can swim 15 yards freestyle and backstroke with zero assistance

Elementary School Swim Lesson Guide
Orca 6-12 YRS.
Orcas will develop into learning how to swim at a distance (50 yards). They will work on refining each stroke and learning flips turns!
Completed Level 4 Dolphin or if particpant can swim 25 yards Freestyle, Breathstroke, Elementary Backstroke

Elementary School Swim Lesson Guide
Great White 6-12 YRS.
Great White’s are the final step before swim team they will learn how to swim longer distances then before and have guidance in what strokes they need to further work on. They will also be adapt to open water survival!
Completed Level 5 Orca or if Participant can swim 50 yards Freestyle, Backstroke, Elementary Backstroke, Breath Stroke.

Los Gatos-Saratoga Recreation Masters

LGSR masters is a year-round outdoor swim program to better improve swimming performance through expert coaching and promote a healthy, active lifestyle. We welcome swimmers of all abilities, age 18 and up, who are interested in regular structured workouts. Previous experience in competitive swimming is not necessary. Masters swimmers include beginners, triathletes, former collegiate athletes, nationally ranked competitors, and everything in between — all ages, shapes, and sizes are welcome.

Lap Swim

Lanes are on a first come, first serve basis. Cash is not accepted. Visit our aquatics page for our most updated pool schedule as hours may vary.
All participants must be able to pass the swim test of 25 yards unassisted. There is no age minimum if the swim test is completed.
Private lane: $13
Shared Lane: $8
Twilight Private Lane: $6.50
Monthly membership $45

New to buying memberships online? To purchase a membership you can follow these steps. Purchase your lap swim membership online to add it to your lap swim account. Monthly lap swim membership will include unlimited swim times for the month. Participants will still need to register online for desired lap time. Memberships are non-transferable and non-refundable.

*Refunds and transfers are permitted up to 2 business days before the start of the Lap Swim session unless otherwise stated. Refunds will only be issued as an account credit towards a future session or LGS Recreation program. No Refunds will be issued for requests made 1 business day or less.

JR Guard Leadership

Our JR Guard Leadership program has three distinct levels including the JR Guard Training, JR Guard Cadet, and the JR Guard Leadership Squad. These programs are designed to provide lifesaving training, leadership skills, and water rescue experience. Participants will have first aid/CPR/AED knowledge and will be able to quickly respond to emergencies in aquatic environments. Participants must be strong swimmers for this program.

Lifeguard Certification

Possible candidates may be offered employment with LGS Recreation after completion of this course.
The primary purpose of the American Red Cross Lifeguarding course is to provide entry-level lifeguard participants with the knowledge and skills to prevent, recognize and respond to aquatic emergencies and to provide professional-level care for breathing and cardiac emergencies, injuries and sudden illnesses until EMS personnel take over.
**Candidates MUST pass ALL the required exams, demonstrate proper techniques, and attend ALL scheduled classes to successfully pass this course and obtain certification. This course will be a blended-learning class combining online work with hands-on training.

Water Polo

We currently have Youth offerings throughout the year for all sorts of skill levels. We have professional coaches that keep the game fun and entertaining. These classes are designed for players to learn the game of water polo and have fun while doing it.

Splash ball

Is a water polo-based game that takes place in shallow water. This program offers children a healthy, fun, and exciting activity that promotes fitness, teamwork, and water safety at a young age. Participants will learn about “Eggbeater” and breaststroke kicks, which are the kicks primarily used in water polo. Participants also learn how to dribble, pass, shoot and play in a team environment.

We offer a flexible schedule that with your activities outside of work life! The pay is competitive, and we provide opportunities for promotion. We are hiring for the following positions:

Swim Instructor: $16.25/hr.
Swim Instructor with Water Safety Certification: $17.10/hr.
Lifeguard: $18.20/hr.
Head Lifeguard: $21.85/hr.

Master’s Swim Coaches: $25-$35/hr.

Open Swim

Join us for Open Swim. There will be Music, Games, Log Rolling, Diving Boards, and Fun.

Every Saturday Starting the week of June 10th from 2:30pm-4:30pm
