Weekend Lead-Vasona

Oversees day-to-day operation, maintenance and customer service at Vasona Lake Boat House and Dock on the weekends.  Supervises Boat Staff.

Employment Type : WEEKENDS ONLY.  SEASONAL, SHORT-TERM, EXTRA-DUTY,

 

Classified Salary : $23.20 per hour

Must be available to work weekends.

Boat Launch-April 27, 2024

Preseason-Saturdays & Sundays, from April 27 through June 9, 2024

Summer Season-Beginning June 10

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following but no limited to:

    • Oversees the Boat Rental operation on Saturdays, and Sundays
    • Coordinates coverage and supervises part-time staff and volunteers assisting the weekend boat rental
    • Oversees equipment use (paddle boats/SUP boards/row boats/kayaks/ and sailboats)
    • Keeps equipment in proper working order, cleaned and maintained for public safety
    • Oversees the equipment rental to the public– cash handling, credit card purchases and monitoring correct and accurate accounting – nightly bank deposits.
    • Monitors lake activities and all boating participants using equipment, includes supervision from a power boat
    • Provides safe boating instruction and general information in a courteous manner
    • Ensures proper and safe usage of rental equipment
    • Maintains clean and safe facilities and promptly informs supervisor of concerns
    • Ensures the power safety boat is used according to County/Boating laws during lake supervision
    • Assists in set-up and break-down of rental equipment
    • Assists customers with rental agreements
    • Provides safe boating instruction and general information
    • Assists patrons on and off rental boats in a safe manner
    • Monitors dock area, boat house and yard
    • Distributes life jackets and ensures proper usage
    • Helps to ensure patrons are following general rules of the lake
    • Keeps the boat center clean and orderly at all times
    • Reports unsafe conditions and equipment such as oars, life jackets, canoe seats, paddle boat peddles, etc. to Supervisor
    • Provides first aid in case of minor injury

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Weekend Lead supervises Boat Staff and Volunteers.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience

Minimum of three-years successful experience working in outdoor program.  Some supervisory experience preferred.

Language Skills

Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions and memos. Ability to write correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to children, parents and community members and other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Water Safety-Lifeguard Certified.  Fingerprint and TB clearance are a condition of employment and must be obtained prior to start date.  CPR/First Aid certification and Mandated Trainings required, but may be obtained within 15 days of hire date.

Conditions of Employment

Upon offer of a position, LGS Recreation staff must obtain fingerprint and TB clearances. Any mandatory trainings required for the position must be completed within 15 days of employment.

This is a short-term, temporary, extra-duty assignment from Mid-March through Mid-October.
