Swim Instructor

Under general supervision, plans, schedules and implements swimming and water safety instructional programs for a diverse range of participants.

Swim Instructor

Pay rate: $16.25/hour or $17.10/hour with valid Water Safety Instructor Certification

MUST BE AT LEAST 15 YEARS OLD AT TIME OF HIRE.  Valid work permit required for anyone under the age of 18 years.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Includes the following but no limited to:

  • Prepares age-appropriate and skilled-focus lesson plans for each class
  • Plans and effectively organizes class time
  • Provides competent, safe instruction in accordance with LGS Recreation Guidelines
  • Teaches with encouragement and positive reinforcement
  • Cautions swimmers regarding unsafe areas
  • Maintains order in swimming areas
  • Conveys information on aquatics program and schedules to students and parents
  • Maintains records as required (i.e., attendance, progress reports, etc.)
  • Inspects facilities for cleanliness and safety
  • Reports unsafe to your supervisor
  • Performs other related duties as assigned

 

 

 

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES

The Swim Instructor  does not have supervisory responsibilities over employees; however, they supervise program participants.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS

Education and/or Experience

No experience required.  Must be at least 15 years old at time of hire.

Language Skills

Ability to read, write and comprehend instructions and memos. Ability to write short correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to children, parents and community members and other employees of the organization.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Must have own transportation. Fingerprint and TB clearance are a condition of employment and must be obtained prior to start date.  Current certificates in CPR, First Aid required.  Water Safety Instructor Certification, preferred.   IF under 18 years of age a valid work permit is required.

 

Conditions of Employment

Upon offer of a position, LGS Recreation staff must obtain fingerprint and TB clearances. Any mandatory trainings required for the position must be completed within 15 days of employment.

Must have own transportation.

Computer Skills

Basic computer skills.

  1. Facilities may be noisy with very dynamic movement.
